Questions About Data Protection and Information Security
At DSN port, we apply modern security standards on both technical and organizational levels. These include encrypted data transmission, role-based access controls, regular security updates, and ongoing security audits.
We closely monitor reports on vulnerabilities related to the software components we use and conduct regular penetration tests to ensure the security and resilience of our platform.
In addition, all employees are contractually committed to data protection principles upon hiring and receive regular training on data protection and information security.
DSN port is hosted in Germany at a data center operated by Plutex GmbH in Bremen. The facility is certified according to ISO/IEC 27001 (information security) and DIN ISO 9001 (quality management), ensuring the highest standards of security and operational excellence.
Key features of the hosting infrastructure include:
- Redundant systems for power supply and climate control
- A multi-layered physical security concept with 24/7 monitoring
- Regular emergency drills, backup routines, and recovery procedures
Additionally, the data center is powered entirely by green electricity, enabling sustainable and climate-conscious operations.
Data security is our highest priority. All access to DSN port takes place exclusively via encrypted connections—using HTTPS with the latest TLS encryption standards (TLS 1.2 and TLS 1.3).
This ensures that data cannot be read, copied, altered, or removed by unauthorized parties during transmission.
Even for temporary access—such as via deeplinks to specific web forms—we prioritize security: These links are protected by sufficiently long, unguessable IDs and an additional password layer to ensure secure access.
To protect data from loss or accidental destruction, DSN port is operated under a comprehensive security framework:
- All systems involved in data processing are protected by firewalls, and incoming and outgoing emails are automatically scanned for malware.
- Security-relevant software updates are applied promptly to close known vulnerabilities.
- Application data is backed up multiple times per day locally and once daily via geo-redundant full backups.
- The data center infrastructure includes uninterruptible power supply (UPS), professional climate control, and fire prevention systems—all designed to safeguard data even in the event of technical disruptions.
DSN port is protected by a comprehensive business continuity strategy designed to ensure availability and operational capability—even in the event of technical issues. Measures include:
- Automatic failover to alternative servers if individual systems go down
- Fallback access to a reduced version of the application in the event of major data center disruptions
- Documented recovery procedures for complete data center failure scenarios
- Daily backups stored near the production environment for rapid restoration
- Nightly mirroring of backup data for added protection
- Fully encrypted backup copies stored in a separate data center located in Germany
- Additional contingency and backup strategies provided by our certified hosting partner
DSN port proudly carries the seals “Software Made in Germany” and “Software Hosted in Germany”, awarded by the German Association of IT SMEs (BITMi).
These certifications reflect our commitment to high standards in software quality and data protection—and guarantee that both software development and hosting are conducted entirely in Germany.
In addition, DSN port undergoes regular penetration testing to proactively identify and resolve potential security vulnerabilities. This ensures ongoing data protection and the integrity of our platform.
Questions About the Modules in DSN port
The Data Protection Module is designed for organizations that want to implement their obligations under the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) in a structured, legally compliant, and resource-efficient manner.
Whether you're a business, public authority, or non-profit organization—if you process personal data, you are subject to documentation and accountability obligations under data protection law. The Data Protection Module helps you meet these requirements effectively.
It is particularly well-suited for:
- Controllers (as defined in Art. 4 No. 7 GDPR) who process personal data under their own responsibility
- Processors (as defined in Art. 4 No. 8 GDPR) who process personal data on behalf of a controller
- Data Protection Officers (internal or external)
The Data Protection (Works Council) Module is designed for companies with an internal works council that need to ensure legally compliant and transparent data protection documentation in accordance with German labor law.
It is ideal for:
- Works councils that wish to independently and securely fulfill their data protection documentation obligations under § 79a of the German Works Constitution Act (BetrVG)
- Employers who are legally responsible as data controllers and want to ensure GDPR-compliant documentation of data protection related to works council activities
- Organizations that seek a clear separation between the data protection responsibilities of the works council and the company’s broader data protection framework
With a feature set tailored specifically to works councils—including dedicated questionnaires, templates, sample entries, and exclusive training resources—the module provides a practical and efficient way to meet legal obligations under § 79a BetrVG. It also serves as a valuable extension to the core Data Protection Module.
The Compliance Module is suitable for organizations of all sizes and industries that want to meet their compliance obligations securely and efficiently. It is especially well-suited for:
- Small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) seeking to comply with legal requirements reliably and manage risks systematically
- Large enterprises aiming to build a structured and transparent compliance framework
- High-risk industries such as financial services or healthcare, where specialized regulatory requirements apply
- Organizations with a designated Compliance Officer (internal or external) who should be seamlessly integrated into internal processes
Whether you're establishing a new compliance management system or improving existing processes, the Compliance Module provides practical, real-world support—backed by years of consulting expertise.
The Artificial Intelligence Module is designed for organizations and companies that develop, deploy, or use AI systems or models—and must comply with the legal requirements of the EU Artificial Intelligence Act (AI Act). This includes:
- Providers of AI systems or models: Organizations or individuals that develop—or have developed—an AI system or general-purpose AI model and place it on the market or put it into service under their own name or brand, whether for commercial or non-commercial purposes.
- Deployers (users) of AI systems: Organizations or individuals that use an AI system under their own responsibility, unless it is used in the course of a purely personal and non-professional activity.
- Importers of AI systems: EU-based organizations or individuals that place on the EU market an AI system that bears the name or brand of a company established outside the EU.
- Distributors of AI systems: Organizations or individuals in the supply chain—other than the provider or importer—that make AI systems available on the EU market.
Whether you're a developer, deployer, importer, or distributor of AI technologies, the Artificial Intelligence Module helps you classify risk, meet your legal obligations, and plan appropriate mitigation measures in accordance with the EU AI Act.
The Information Security Module is suitable for organizations of all sizes and industries that want to implement information security in a structured and practical way.
It is particularly ideal for companies that need—or want—to comply with established standards such as ISO/IEC 27001 or BSI IT-Grundschutz, while maintaining flexibility.
Whether you're building a full Information Security Management System (ISMS) or improving existing security measures, the module adapts to your specific needs and supports you every step of the way.
Yes, DSN port is modular by design. You can use each module independently—or combine them as needed.
Since all modules share a common data foundation and use the same core functionalities, you can start with one module and expand at any time—without switching systems or duplicating data.
This ensures a consistent user experience, familiar workflows, and unified data management across your organization. DSN port adapts to your needs—not the other way around.
